Together We Ride To Save Lives
On Sunday, June 6th I’ll be participating in the annual Becel Heart&Stroke Ride for Heart in Toronto. In July of 2004, my younger brother, Kevin Duffy, suffered a stroke at the age of forty-three. After spending three weeks in ICU and another four months in the hospital, Kevin began his long road to recovery and fullness of life. Kevin’s journey still continues after thousands of hours of speech therapy and physiotherapy. He’s making progress every day thanks to his tenacious spirit. As a volunteer for the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Mississauga, Kevin is reaching out to others who have been impacted by stroke in a hope to improve their quality of life. Again this year I will be proudly riding with Kevin.
As Chair of the Board at the Heart and Stroke Foundation, I believe strongly in the importance of our life-saving work. So I want to take my fundraising to the next level. For every $1 pledged to me this year, I will contribute $1 personally up to a maximum of $50,000.
I can say with certainty that our work has never been more important. Heart disease and stroke cause 1 in 3 deaths in Canada every year. Today we’re investing in a future without these diseases. The Foundation funds research in prevention, treatment and recovery from the devastating effects of heart disease and stroke. Thank you for putting your heart into it and supporting a cause that is so close to my own heart.
