"My dad had a stroke in 2009 and is still on the road to recovery. While I'm not a cyclist, I got on a bike, completed the 50km route, and became a Ride for Heart VIP. I was absolutely overwhelmed by the fundraising support from my friends and family because they know how dear this cause is to me now. All it took was a few emails and some Facebook messages."

"I Ride for Heart because my family was affected by heart disease and stroke, and benefited greatly from the Foundation's research and education. Also, I love to cycle. Becoming a VIP is totally achievable. When I started, I built the Foundation's basic message into a simple email to a few dozen contacts, asking them for $25, $50 or $100. By giving them a target, I found I could easily raise $1,000 and more."

More than 50,000 strokes, 75,000 heart attacks and up to 45,000 cardiac arrests occur every year. Sadly, one in three deaths in Canada is due to heart disease or stroke. There is still so much more to do.
